HISTORY

A history of seeking perfection

For more than half a century, TOSTEM has been developing products with the goal creating more comfortable homes. Yet how people define "comfortable homes" is shaped by individual values that change over time. As a leading brand, we’re sensitive to these changing values and have evolved our manufacturing technologies and products accordingly.

The evolution of living

Homes that restored security

By the end of WWII, large areas of Japan had been completely destroyed creating a serious housing shortage. Measures were taken to address this at the national level by providing homes that restored security.

Manufacturing philosophy

TOSTEM's predecessor, the furniture retail business Myokenya Shoten, was established to provide homes to the populace as rapidly as possible. The company manufactured wooden fittings and furniture to satisfy this demand.
